Major Flapps? Who's that? He's a courageous aviator with a big red nose and an 8-foot-long scarf. His only problem is that he can't seem to get airborne! And that's where this hilarious concert starts as he enlists audience members as his flight crew.

In his show "World in a Flapp", audiences of all ages become the stars in fiddling, clown aviator Major Conrad Flapps' delightful blend of physical/acrobatic and musical comedy. The world's only "human airplane" enlists audience members as his flying crew on stage and creates musical parodies with hilarious results. Major Flapps provides "splendid family entertainment" (CBC) whether singing and fiddling comic send-ups of country & western, Maritime tunes or rhythm & blues.

Click to see a short movie of Flapps in action!

Choking from the air pollution, caused by too many cars on the road, clown aviator, Major Conrad Flapps decides to walk instead of fly to school. Incorporating his popular style of making the audience the stars of the show, Flapps transforms students and adults into cars, drivers, traffic lanes, and sound effect machines, while hilariously blazing a trail through the "urban jungle". Imitating the students using clown humour with Hip-Hop and Rap, Major Flapps demonstrates the wrong ways to approach traffic safety thus encouraging input from audience volunteers. A climactic unmasking of the clown brings the seriousness of his message home.

Adding live music on fiddle, Major Flapps parodies Country Music and Rhythm and Blues to reiterate the safety themes of the show, as well as the economic and health benefits of leaving the car at home. The hilarious finale features the Crosswalk Jive Band composed of "famous audience musicians".

This new show uses hip-hop, rap and jive in an interactive show transforming audiences into car drivers, as Flapps demonstrates the wrong ways to use the crosswalk. This show is for Elementary School audiences. It was originally sponsored by The Autoplan Broker Road Safety Program.

The Flying Symphony Show

Photo
The stage is covered with space and star effects. Suddenly the orchestra begins the glorious music "Also Sprach Zarathustra". A spotlight targets a space age display of the earth at the centre of the stage.

Conrad Flapps' head slowly appears above the display, with an inflated globe balanced on his flying helmet. He poses, flies around, and lands in front of the backdrop, just as the music completes.

Flapps grins and speaks to his audience, "Thank-you flyers, I am Major Conrad Flapps, and… I just seem to have the world on my mind..."

And so begins a hilarious musical adventure 'round the world with our famous aviator clown Major Conrad Flapps. With the help of the symphony orchestra, and the children and parents in the audience, we tour the world of orchestral music, from the themes to Star Trek and E.T., to The Blue Danube Waltz, A Silly Square Dance, The Flight of the Valkerie, The Bay of Fundy Reel, and much, much more.

Last performed with the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra, this hilarious musical adventure is especially designed to enlist young audience members as Flapps' flight crew while they enjoy an entertaining and enlightening musical experience.
Delightful!
